India’s Elections 2019: Implications and Looking Ahead at the World’s Largest Democracy

India’s national elections are underway with an electorate of over 900 million eligible voters who will be deciding on their next government. These elections, mammoth in scale, are being held in seven phases, across 29 states and 7 Union Territories from April 11, 2019 through May 19, 2019. Results will be declared on May 23, 2019. Young Indians and rural India will play a crucial role in determining its next leadership, who will need to meet the expectations of job creation, economic growth and the direction of its democratic institutions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) who had won with a historic landslide in 2014 with promises of governance, employment and economic reforms is seeking a second term against the main opposition Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi.

Before the two current exhibitions: A Story of Light: Hon Chi-fun and Yukaloo by James Turrell end their run in early-June, we would like to offer members an exclusive docent-led tour to over 30 paintings, photographs and collages by the ground-breaking Hong Kong artist – Mr. Hon Chi-fun and also to view James Turrell’s work. \r\n\r\nOn top of this, participants will get to find out more about the Rainforest Fringe Festival from Kuching, Sarawak. US-China relations has witnessed increasing tension and uncertainty in recent times. The changing dynamics between the two largest countries in the world – from the diplomatic, technological, economic, financial, psychological to the political – are certain to re-shape the future of the world for years to come. Professor Kenneth Lieberthal, distinguished China scholar, along with leading experts from the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan will unpack their deep insights into the factors and forces at play in analyzing the US-China landscape. The expert panel speakers will give the US perspective on an array of issues spanning from US competition concerns relating to China’s strategic priorities, the political tension around China’s expanding economic and trade ascendancy, and China’s future role in the global world order.

She received various music scholarships to further her talent in this field and also received numerous awards in music in recent years, including the Outstanding Performance Award in cello section of Alice and Eleonre Schoenfeld International String Competition, won the Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup Strings Competition and the concerto competition of Diocesan Girls’ School, etc.\r\nBeing active in orchestras and chamber ensembles had provided her the chance to work locally and overseas with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica Viva, RTHK, and Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra as a vocal and cello soloist in recent years.
